Whew. It's been a long time since I lasted posted here. It's not that I haven't been focused on Katrina matters, it's just that my work has been grass roots, hands on, in the trenches. That said, I have really missed blogging...and August 29, 2009 marked the beginning of the fifth anniversary year of Hurricane Katrina. Can you believe that? In some ways it seems like the hurricane season of 2005 was just yesterday...in other ways it seems like the journey has been long and arduous. No mistake about it - Louisiana is still in the throngs of recovery. I was just talking to Cyndi Sellers, tourism board and library board for Cameron Parish Louisiana last week - The library will be just getting out of a bookmobile and into a temporary building sometime in January. Cameron Parish recovery is related to Rita of course - and then they got another wallop last year by Ike. Ok so I digress. At any rate, now that we're heading toward Katrina's fifth anny, thoughts are I'll take the blog out of archive for one last spin - and then hang her up after Hurricane Season 2010. I am in the process of launching a new online portal - Gulf Coast Rising - which will be focused on innovations happening on the Gulf Coast and I will post information about that here very soon. It's great to be back!

Katrina victims of Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) flooding may be owed compensation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over its failure to appropriately maintain the MRGO. If you are one of the thousands of Louisiana residents whose property was located in the following Louisiana zip codes: 70129, 70117, 70092, 70085, 70075, 70043, and 70032, and you filed SF Form 95 claims with the Army Corps of Engineers on or before August 29, 2007, this site has lots of valuable information: http://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/MRGO-Flood-Lawsuit
