Report: Feds, Corps owe storm victims for levee failures

"Team Louisiana", a group of independent scientists conducted an " 18-month, intensive examination of how and why [New Orleans'] levees and floodwalls failed in Hurricane Katrina. According to wwltv.com the investigation " led 'Team Louisiana' to a series of disturbing findings. According to their report, 'the citizens of the state were basically denied the level of protection mandated by Congress in the 1965 Flood Control Act'.” Read it and weep, here.

Scientists, engineers caution state: Long levees could damage coast

The Associated Press reports, "sixteen coastal scientists and engineers are warning that building long levees along Louisiana’s coast for additional hurricane protection could instead hasten coastal deterioration". More here. Elsewhere on the Louisiana environmental front, The Corp of Engineers is fixing New Orleans pumps, and it was announced today that the MRGO lawsuit is slated to go forward fall of 2008.
